On January 10, 2012, the Cairo/Grady County Employer Committee hosted a breakfast with a presentation from Rebecca O’Neil of Southwest Georgia Workforce 44.
The topic of interest to employers was how to save their company $$$$ in training costs by using the OJT program available to them.
Ms. O’Neil gave flyers out to everyone present which had the following information:
Ms. O’Neil explained how OJT can help businesses by receiving financial assistance for training new employees in the skills they need to perform their job effectively. Any company can be reimbursed for the costs associated with training a new employee, at half the pay rate for the agreed-upon training period. OJT can reimburse a company monthly. Candidates are selected by The Southwest Georgia Workforce 44 Staff by pre-screening and assessing potential individuals that match the business position specifications. Also, if a company as an individual they are interested in, they can be included in the screening process for WIA eligibility requirements. Paperwork is always a concern for businesses and Ms. O’Neil stated “Once you've agreed to hire the participant, but before he/she actually begins working for you, a training contract is developed with you. While the participant is in training, you submit monthly progress reports and invoices to receive reimbursements for training costs. Southwest Georgia Workforce 44 Staff will assist with completing all the necessary documents.”
Ms. O’Neil explained to the employers that they will commit to keeping trained employees who complete a satisfactory on the-job training period. Accompanied by Southwest Georgia Workforce 44 Staff, employers will make the training decisions. OJT is tailored to The Company’s job description and the needs of their company. The length of training will depend on the complexity of the job and the skills and experience the individual brings to the position.
After the presentation several employers stayed to talk one on one with Ms. O’Neil for questions specifically for their businesses.
