The Cairo/Grady County Employer Committee sponsored a seminar for area employers on July 8, 2008 in Cairo at the Grady Room of the Roddenbery Memorial Library.

JobseekersWith a room filled, even the stormy skies couldn’t keep ‘em away. That was the picture of the 2007 Grady County Job Fair in Cairo on October 18, 2007. Thirty-Two employers and over 250 job seekers attended the job fair in hopes of making the perfect match. Employers set their booths with attractive sites and company representatives pitched a sale to potential employees. read more

Janice Bishop honored as SWGA Older Worker of the Year

Janice Bishop, 68, selected as Older Worker of the Year for Southwest Georgia. Ashley Hindsman ALBANY — Two years ago Janice Bishop, 68, took a job at the Cairo Career Center doing clerical work she had never done before. Shortly before then she received her GED, but said she was totally computer illiterate. Knowing she had to provide for her disabled husband and take care of her household bills, Bishop was determined to learn all she needed to know to complete her job. Veterans Express Bus Golf Tourney Fundraiser a BIG Success

On September 8, 2007 the Cairo and Thomas County Employer Committee joined forces to help sponsor a golf tournament to raise money for the Veterans Express. Over $3,500 was raised. Other organizers were Golf Pro and veterans, Ben Celaya, Veteran Fred McCallum and Larry Price, Thomas County Veterans Council.read more

Cairo Career Center selected as Older Worker Employer of the Year

A local agency believes people with graying hair, wrinkled skin and many years of life still have a lot to contribute to the Grady County workforce. The Cairo Career Center, 101 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., was recently selected as Georgia’s “Outstanding Employer of Older Workers” for 2007 by the Georgia Older Workers Network. An employee there, Janice Bishop, was named “older worker of the year” for the southwest Georgia region, though she did not pick up top honors at the state level.read more
