Jam Fest 2008 A Big Success
Bringing a following with them, each band at the Jam Fest 2008 played their best. The Cairo/Grady County Employer Committee, IAWP Members along with The Grady County Children & Youth Council, S&L Productions, Flowers by Theresa, Cairo High School and the Cairo High School Grady County Youth Council sponsored JAM FEST 2008 at the Cairo High School Gym on March 15, 2008. The event was held as a fund raiser to raise money for American Cancer Society, Relay for Life. The bands were a “hit” playing their hit songs. Many of the artists wrote their own music so talent was in the house.
The bands that were featured were Blue Holler Band, a blue grass band which featured Cairo/Grady County Employer Committee member, Allen Kaye, playing banjo. Pink Grass, another blue grass band played many songs that were composed by the lead singer, Wanda Ezell. Blue Grass music was a crowd pleaser and many from around the community came to enjoy that type of music. Featuring also, Life Long Journey, a contemporary Christian band. Their music was exciting and inspiring.
This band has a following and many were there to here them play and sing. Second Wives was our headliner band. This band consists of three brothers that hail from Cairo but now live in Atlanta. They brought the house down with their rock and roll style music. This group also has much talent as they compose most of their own music. Second Wives also has a following from around the state that was present. In between sets, we had local talent, such as Gage Helton, playing guitar and singing. Gage also writes most of his own music. We also had local law enforcement make a presentation on drug abuse and prevention and how it pertains to youth and families and how it can be linked to cancer.
This JAM FEST was produced by S&L Productions of Cairo with Technicolor and a light show and sound equipment that you would think should be on the road, it was outstanding. We could not have been more pleased. This was the first event of this kind for Cairo. It was very impressive to see the work that everyone put in to make this a success. The Grady County Youth Council really stepped up to the plate as students and exhibited wonderful leadership skills on this project. We all learned so much about putting on a project and all the students are already talking about who to bring for next year.
Estimating about 218 people bought tickets, we were pleased with this crowd. The money raised from this benefit is estimated at $1,050 and this includes a donation from the Cairo/Grady County Employer Committee and from the Grady County Children and Youth Council. Another success story, that we hope will touch the lives of many in helping to find a cure for cancer. It’s an incredible feeling to know that our community came together for the cause of others.
