2011 GROUNDHOG JOB SHADOW DAY
MAKES ANOTHER APPEARANCE
February 17,2011 was another successful “Shadow” day.
Cairo High School “shadow” students had an opportunity to meet and shadow area employers in areas of employment that they have an interest in and would possibly like to make a career of that profession.
The students, there were 19 students from the high school and 14 businesses in Cairo that participated in this year’s Job Shadow Day.
The event was a collaborative effort with Southwest Georgia Technical College, Cairo High School and Cairo/Grady County Employer Committee. All three partners worked to make this year’s event a successful event.
Students shadowed employers in employment fields ranging from health care, veterinary medicine, teaching, restaurant, heavy equipment mechanics, optometry, and others.
At the conclusion of the job shadow, students and employers were treated to a luncheon, hosted by the collaborative partners. Pastor Johnny Moore of Family Worship Center provided their church for the gathering and Mr. Pete Williams of Cairo High School, sponsored the luncheon.
At the luncheon, the students had an opportunity to share their experiences on the job, while employers expressed a desire to keep this annual event going each year. It seemed obvious all participants that this job shadowing event was meaningful and enlightening to both students and employers.
