Breakfast & Learn

On December 15, 2011, the Covington Area Employer Committee and the Covington/Newton Chamber of Commerce hosted a Breakfast & Learn. Guest speaker was Jonathan Martin, Partner with the law firm Constangy, Brooks & Smith, LLC, specializing in class action litigation, labor relations, litigation-employment and litigation-prevention and defense, as well as workers compensation defense. His presentation, titled “THERE’S A LOT OF NEWS FROM WASHINGTON AND NONE OF IT’S GOOD!” addressed topics covering the new and costly regulations from the U.S. Department of Labor, recent overhauls in the leadership and rules at the National Labor Relations Board, strategies to deal with the new NLRB poster, and new legislation and cases including ADA, Title VII, ADEA. Presenting to human resource managers from corporations employing 500, as well as small business owners employing less than 10, Jonathan’s presentation was beneficial for everyone. One small business owner said it was the best presentation she had seen in years, and the most information packed hour she had sat through! The Covington Area Employer Committee has asked to have Jonathan out again to keep us up to date on all matters regarding labor law and impending regulations. The Covington Area Employer Committee is committed to seeking solutions related to employment and unemployment in the area, working with the local Department of Labor offices and private sector businesses to foster cooperation and solutions to the service area needs and provide professional education and development opportunities for our members.
