2011 CAREER AND RESOURCE EXPO HUGE SUCCESS
The 2011 Career and Resource Expo was the event of the year for South Georgians looking for employment and resources.
For the 3rdnd year in a row, two neighboring counties collaborated and hosted a successful Career and Resource Expo. Cairo (Grady County) and Thomasville (Thomas County) partnered to bring hiring employers and resource vendors to this area.
The event was sponsored by the Cairo and Thomasville Georgia Department of Labor, Cairo/Grady County and Thomas County Chambers of Commerce, Cairo/Grady County and Thomas County Employer Committees, Southwest Georgia Technical College, Cairo Messenger, Thomasville Times Enterprise, and Radio Station WGRA.
The 2011 Career and Resource Expo was held on the campus of Southwest Georgia Technical College. Long hours of preparation and coordination resulted in 44 hiring employers, 10 resource agencies and more than 550 jobseekers.
Thomasville Area Society of Human Resource Managers (SHRM) offered their time and expertise to review the resumes of attendees to offer valuable feedback jobseekers could use in order to maximize their chances of getting an interview.
Some employers actually started the hiring process “on the spot.” Other employers scheduled a second interview with job seekers at a later date.
This year’s career and resource expo had a wide range of employers that were hiring for local, state and federal agencies in Thomasville and surrounding counties, the Big Bend Area, and nation-wide.
Planning in currently underway for next year’s Career Expo.
