2008 SPRING LUNCH AND LEARN

The Union/Towns Employer Committee in conjunction with the Towns County Chamber of Commerce and the Union County Chamber of Commerce held their Spring Lunch and Learn meeting at Young Harris College in Young Harris, Ga. The meeting was held in the newly rensovated dining hall on campus. There were over one hundred people on hand for the meeting. The participants were treated to lunch, beverage and wonderful desserts.

The guest speaker for the occasion was President of Young Harris College and former two term Georgia Secretary of State Cathy Cox. President Cox spoke of all of the wonderful initiatives that are about to take place at the college.

Here are a few highlights of some of the initiatives that will be taking place at the college in the very near future.

  • Young Harris will move from its current status as a two year school to a four year degree granting institution

  • The school will break ground this summer on a new 200 bed dormitory that will house two students per room in a suite type environment with separate living quarters and a common sitting area.

  • There will be an additional fine arts building constructed

  • New Buildings will be constructed to show off the beauty of the mountains

  • The college plans to double its student population to approximately 1500 students, and in two years the college will have increased its faculty numbers by 50%
