The Georgia Employer Committee would like to share with its viewers the EMR's who are vital to the success of the Local Committees throughout the State. This month we meet and talk with EMR Anthony Utley, Tamika Wise and Willie Glenn of the De Kalb Career Center.
Tell us your name, your Career Center and how long you’ve been an EMR?
AU: - Greetings, my name is Anthony Utley and I am a Employment Marketing Representative for the DeKalb Career Center. In addition to myself, we have two other EMR’s on staff, their names are Tamika Wise and Willie Glenn. Our career center serves both DeKalb and Rockdale Counties. I currently have been serving as an EMR since 2010.
What types of businesses or organizations make up your Employer Committee?
AU: - The DeKalb/Rockdale Employer Committee is composed of representatives from an array of Fortune 500 corporations, small and micro- businesses, Chambers of Commerce, WIA partners, local technical colleges/universities, and leaders of faith-based organizations.
What do you believe is unique about your Employer Committee?
AU: - The philosophy of the DeKalb/Rockdale Employer Committee is putting the community first. We execute our this philosophy by providing several events throughout the fiscal year specifically designed to enhance the level of knowledge, involvement, and awareness of our business partners, making them aware of the critical issues that derive from Federal, State and Local government.
What do you believe is your Employer Committee's biggest challenge for your area, regarding the workforce?
AU: - One of the biggest challenges our Employer Committee faces is increasing its level of exposure as it pertains to an ever changing global labor market. Many companies and organizations are unaware of the untapped resources our Employer Committee and the Georgia Department of Labor can provide. By maximizing our exposure we will not only increase in quantity, but also in the quality of services we provide to our members as well as our community.
Why should I join your Employer Committee?
AU: - As a member of the DeKalb/Rockdale Employer Committee you will gain access to a wealth of essential resources that can be used both personally and professionally. You will also be linked to a cohesive group of individuals from various industries and professional backgrounds. As a member, you will not only by increasing the exposure of your organization but also expanding your personal network as well. .
How active is your Employer Committee working in your community?
AU: - The DeKalb/Rockdale Employer Committee host quarterly community services activities, semi-annual seminars, an annual college scholarship award, and an annual themed major community service project.
What future trends does your Employer Committee see in employment needs in your area?
AU: - One of the trends our committee has seen is a tremendous increase is in green jobs. Through the partnership of the DeKalb Workforce Development and Goodwill of North Georgia, we are able to collate our current workforce with the curriculum and skill set needed to explore the limitless opportunities of the green job initiative.
In the future, what would you most like to accomplish as an EMR?
AU: - The ultimate goal of an EMR is to develop the EMR/Employer relationship such that our services and resources are so essential to our business customers that we are considered as part of their company’s staff (an unpaid business consultant).
