2009 Conference Wrap
2009 Georgia Employer Committee & Georgia Safety Health and Environmental State Conference Re-Cap
In spite of this year’s tough economic times, the Georgia Employer Committee thought long and hard to find an efficient way to continue the success of hosting a statewide conference. After looking at various cost effective suggestions, the decision was made to combine our State Conference with the Georgia Safety Health and Environmental State Conference in Savannah, Georgia. Over 400 were in attendance at this year’s joint conference.
The Georgia Safety Health and Environmental Conference affords our many employers across the state various training and educational opportunities focused on protecting individuals’ health and welfare by providing the best and safest workplaces in the nation.
Both of these conferences in the past have enjoyed the benefit of having hard working, enthusiastic and talented board members who represent some of Georgia’s most highly valued private and public sector employers. By combining these two large groups, a most successful educational and networking conference was established.
This year’s conference also honored Mr. Earl Everett, Director of the Georgia Department of Labor’s Safety Engineering Division who passed away prior to the conference. Several tributes and monetary contributions were made in honor of Mr. Everett during the conference.
Conference sessions were held that addressed safety issues in the workplace as well as labor law issues that employers were interested in. This year’s conference also included several motivational speakers that brought standing ovations from the attendees.
The Georgia Employer Committee Golf Tournament was re-named the Earl Everett Memorial Golf Tournament and raised $3,000.00 this year to benefit Kid’s Chance. A Silent Auction was also held raising an additional $7,000.00 to benefit Kid’s Chance.
Several team building and after hours networking events were held that gave both groups the opportunity to work together and get to know each other in a more informal setting.
Both groups presented awards to their most outstanding employers and employer committees across the state. 2009 Employer Committee Award Winners were:
Douglas Area Employer Committee- Rising Star Award
Newnan Peachtree City Area Employer Committee- Spirit Award
Southwest Georgia Employer Committee- Project of the Year Award
Cartersville/Bartow County Employer Committee- Runner-Up Community Service Award
Columbus Employer Committee- Community Service of the Year Award
Greater Augusta Employer Committee- Runner-Up Committee of the Year Award

Congratulations to all of our winners!
A number of exhibitors were also present at this year’s conference. Both Boards are discussing and making plans for next year’s conference. After the success of this year’s conference it seems like this is definitely a win-win for both groups.
For those that attended, thank you for your support. We look forward to having more of our Georgia Employer Committee members attend next year’s conference. (Details will be posted on the website as they are finalized for next year’s conference.)
